D.C. rapper Swipey shot and killed in Prince George’s County on Sunday
D.C. rapper Swipey, who was very famous in the region and on the internet, with more than 40,000 followers online, was shot and killed early Sunday in Prince George’s County.
The 18-year-old artist had been making moves with his rap career, working with Lil Durk and Shy Glizzy, as well as with producer Jazze Pha. His most recent release was a project called ‘SNS: Sorry Not Sorry’ that came out in July. The video for Swipey’s song “Intro” has been viewed more than 130,000 times on YouTube.
His manager Kevin Baldwin reportedly revealed that Swipey had been arguing with a girl that “he used to mess with” at a party earlier in the night, but The Washington Post reported that police hadn’t determined a suspect or motive, though they do not believe the shooting was random. They are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the killing.
The rapper, whose real name was Douglas Brooks, was found by police outside an apartment complex in Suitland, Maryland around 1:00 a.m. and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. On social media, friends and fans posted a lot of tributes.
