Demi Lovato celebrates 6 years of sobriety on Twitter
Demi Lovato, who has been very open about her past struggle with substance abuse and self-harm, took to Twitter on Wednesday (Mar. 14) to open up about her on-going sobriety journey. The singer posted an inspiring tweet to her fans to celebrate six years of sobriety.
“Just officially turned 6 years sober. So grateful for another year of joy, health and happiness. It IS possible,” she wrote.
The touching message elicited an outpouring of support from her fans, who decided to thank the 25-year-old singer for inspiring them to seek help and stay sober as well.
The Sorry Not Sorry hitmaker first went to rehab after a meltdown on a Jonas Brothers tour in 2010, but struggled with her addictions for the next couple of years.
Demi’s tweet comes after she admitted during an interview with Billboard last week that she felt driven to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting after the 2016 Met Gala in New York, because the catty fashion party left her feeling so low on self-esteem.
“This one celebrity was a complete b**ch and was miserable to be around,” she remembered. “It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”
