DMX arrested for tax fraud
Rapper DMX was arrested Thursday (July 13th) and is facing tax evasion charges, after allegedly concealing millions of dollars in earnings to avoid paying $1.7 million in taxes.
The 46-year-old rapper was charged with 14 counts, including “one count of corruptly endeavoring to obstruct and impede the due administration of Internal Revenue Laws, one count of evasion of payment of income taxes, six counts of evasion of assessment of income tax liability, and six counts of failure to file a U.S. individual income tax return.”
His lawyer Murray Richman, said that Simmons plans to enter a not guilty plea at his arraignment on Friday (today, July 14th). He added that while Simmons (this is DMX’s real name) concentrated on music, he had been “charged over the failure of others to do what he hired them to do.”
If convicted, the rapper faces a maximum of 44 years in prison on each of the charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. DMX will be officially indicted in a few hours before a judge.
