Dolly Parton & Linda Perry collaborate on Dumplin’ soundtrack
Dolly Parton lends her music to Jennifer Aniston’s new movie, Dumplin’. The country singer and producer Linda Perry have collaborated on the soundtrack for the movie and the album will come out later this year on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville.
Dumplin’, which is negotiations for distribution, is an American musical comedy film directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Kristin Hahn. It is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Julie Murphy and in addition to Jennifer Aniston (as Rosie Dickson), it stars Danielle Macdonald (as Willowdean “Dumplin'” Dickson).
Julie Murphy’s novel is about a plus-sized girl who enters a beauty pageant to defy her mom, who is a former pageant queen. Will the movie be as successful as the book? Who knows. Surely, since the project features Dolly Parton on the sountrack, we expect big things.
Dumplin’ features the country queen vocally collaborating with a number of partners on six new songs, co-written by Parton and Perry, and newly recorded versions of several previously released Parton songs. In addition to producing the album, Perry also wrote and produced the score.
