Ducktails shows cancelled following allegations of sexual assault
As you surely have heard, Ducktails member Matthew Mondanile has been accused of sexual misconduct by seven women, each of whom detailed their alleged experiences with Mondanile to SPIN Magazine on Monday (Oct. 16). For this reason, Ducktails’ upcoming tour has been cancelled.
The musician, who is also known for being the founding guitarist of the popular New Jersey indie-rock band Real Estate, was reportedly fired by the band in early 2016 due to the allegations of “unacceptable treatment of women,” as the band told SPIN in a report published some days ago.
In one alleged case, Mondanile is said to have forced a woman into a concert venue’s broom closet and kissed her, and later forced her to spend the night in his bed: “It was five in the morning, and he kept trying to move closer to me, and I was moving away,” the woman told SPIN.
According to Pitchfork, Mondanile has denied any misconduct, saying “There’s nothing I can tell you other than that I’ve done nothing wrong at all. There’s nothing to find out about me at all.”
Ducktails finished a tour in Europe on Thursday and had been due to play 11 dates across the US in November, including performances in Philadelphia and Brooklyn.
