Ed Sheeran is back: listen here to his 2 new songs
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran surprised fans by releasing two new songs on Friday (Jan.6th), drawn from his forthcoming third album.
We’re talking about “Shape Of You,” in which talks about love and sexual attraction and “Castle On The Hill,” a more expansive song, co-produced by the singer and Benny Blanco, in which Sheeran recounts his adolescence in the English countryside.
This new tracks mark Ed Sheeran’s return to music after spending 2016 largely out of view. In a statement, Sheeran said, “I really wanted to show two different sides to my music that I’m equally as passionate about” and said he’s “absolutely buzzing to be back.”
The singer’s new album, from which the two new songs are presumably drawn and that still has not a release date, will be called “÷” and it’s something that the fans found out when he tweeted the symbol on Thursday (Jan.5th).
“Shape of You” and “Castle On The Hill” had been played more than a million times on YouTube within hours of their release. The first one was originally intended for Rihanna, while the second one is a very personal and intimate declaration of love for Suffolk, a place in Eastern England where Sheeran grew up.
