Ed Sheeran best-selling Global Recording Artist of 2017
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) – which is a non-profit members’ organisation that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide – has named Ed Sheeran as the world’s best-selling recording artist of 2017.
As a matter of fact, the British singer deserves this accreditation, if we think about the record-breaking success of his third studio album ÷ and its singles including the global smashes ‘Shape of You’, ‘Castle on the Hill’, ‘Galway Girl’ and ‘Perfect’.
Released in March 2017, ÷ was the global best-selling album of last year and has been certified as multi-Platinum in 36 markets. Moreover ‘Shape of You’ was the best-selling single globally of 2017 and has been certified as multi-Platinum in 32 markets.
Ed must be proud of himself because it is the first time that the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year has had both the best-selling album and single of the year.
Ed Sheeran is the fifth recipient of the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award; in 2013 the title went to One Direction, in 2014 to Taylor Swift, in 2015 to Adele and finally in 2016 Drake was the winner.
