Former Foghat guitarist Erik Cartwright dead at 66
American rock guitarist Erik Cartwright, best known for playing with Foghat, has died at the age of 66. The musician played lead and slide guitar on Foghat’s last three major label releases, “Girls to Chat & Boys to Bounce” (1981), “In the Mood for Something Rude” (1982), and “Zig-Zag Walk” (1983).
Cartwright’s death has been confirmed by the band through Cartwright’s sister Katchie in a Facebook post. “We are very sad to learn about this,” reads the band’s update. “Our thoughts are with his family.”
In addition to his sister Katchie, Cartwright is survived by his mother, Carol, and his brother Brett, who has played bass guitar for Joan Jett, David Johansen, and Shayne Fontayne. Brett Cartwright also toured as Foghat’s bassist during the late 1980s.
Erik Cartwright died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on July 9th. A cause of death has not been reported.
