Former President George HW Bush hospitalized after his wife passed away
Former President George H.W. Bush has been hospitalized in Houston with an infection that has spread to his blood, just after attending the funeral of his wife, Barbara, a spokesman said Monday (Apr. 23).
“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant,” spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement.
The 93-year-old was admitted to the hospital on Sunday morning (Apr. 22) with a life-threatening infection as Bush’s blood pressure kept dropping and a couple of times there was serious concern about whether he was going to come through.
As regards his wife, Barbara Bush was laid to rest Saturday (Apr. 21) in a ceremony attended by her husband and former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and their wives, along with current first lady Melania Trump. She was 92, and she and her husband had been married 73 years — the longest presidential marriage in U.S. history.
