James Bay set for highest new chart album entry
English singer-songwriter and guitarist James Bay released his eagerly anticipated sophomore album Electric Light on Friday (May 18) via Virgin EMI.
Electric Light is Bay’s second studio album and received mixed and positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 71 based on 13 ratings, indicating “generally favorable reviews”. Q magazine are quoted as saying “an admirable desire for transformation.”
The project looks good to be the week’s highest debut on the Official Albums Chart, the UK’s Top 100 biggest artist albums of the week based on sales of CDs, downloads, vinyl and weighted audio streams.
As regards other new entries, Five Finger Death Punch are in line for a second Top 10 with And Justice For None starting at 4, while K-pop sensations BTS are in with a shot of their very first Top 10 with third studio album Love Yourself: Tear at 7, and Courtney Barnett’s Tell Me How You Feel is new at 8, potentially her first Top 10 album come Friday.
