Justin Timberlake confirmed to headline Super Bowl halftime show
Now it’s official! Justin Timberlake will headline the Super Bowl half-time show on February 4th, his third time on the halftime stage. The singer will be on that stage fourteen years after a “wardrobe malfunction” overshadowed his last gig with Janet Jackson.
Remember? In that occasion, Janet and Justin sang together and the performance featured several suggestive dance moves by both singers. Then, as Timberlake reached his final line of “Rock Your Body”, it is to say “I’m gonna have you naked by the end of this song”, Timberlake pulled off a part of Jackson’s costume, revealing her right breast.
The incident was later referred to as a “wardrobe malfunction” or “Nipplegate”. It was widely discussed and considered indecent until the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) fined CBS a record US$550,000 which was fought in the Supreme Court, but that fine was appealed and ultimately voided by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in a 2011 ruling, and a case to reinstate the fine was refused in 2012.
Timberlake took to social media on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 22) to reveal his return to America’s National Football League (NFL) championship event to fans and now he has promised there won’t be any nipple flashing during his performance.
The singer shared a clip of himself and close friend Jimmy Fallon, in which he asked the comedian if he has the time. The bit devolves until it sounds like the two of them saying: “I do Halftime!”. The clip is captioned: “I DO have the time. Half the time...#PepsiHalftime #SBLII @Pepsi @NFL @JimmyFallon @FallonTonight.”
