Little Mix accused of copying G.R.L on ‘Shout Out To My Ex’
Little Mix debuted their brand new single, “Shout Out to My Ex,” on October 16th. The song, which debuted at No.1 on the UK Singles Chart, serves as the lead single and appears as the first track on their fourth studio album ‘Glory Days’.
However it was not welcomed only with good results in charts, but also with criticism. In fact, the girls have been accused of ‘copying’ G.R.L.’s ‘Ugly Heart’.
Little Mix have responded to the controversy saying “We’re actually friends with Emmalyn from G.R.L. and she loves the song,” Jade Thirlwall said in a interview with a Belgian radio station and added “I think every song is going to have a similar chord sequence, slightly similar lyrics, and melodies — you know, it happens all the time. But it doesn’t mean that they’re not both incredible songs.”
When the radio host played snippets of both “Shout Out to My Ex” and “Ugly Heart” for the girls, Jade insisted saying “I think maybe because it was a girl band as well, people just like to have something negative to say.”
As regards the other members of Little Mix, Leigh-Anne Pinnock observed that “Ugly Heart” sounds “a lot more country,” Perrie Edwards laughed and added, “Stop trying to hop on the bandwagon,” and Jesy Nelson commented “Stop trying to get publicity!”
What do you think? Are the songs so similar? Judge for yourselves:
