Mel B didn’t talk to her mother for 10 years, here’s why
Could you believe that Mel B and her mother did not talk to each other for almost ten years? Well you better believe it, because it’s true. That’s just what the singer’s mother Andrea Brown revealed to Mail Online: the woman said she was shut out of her daughter’s life for ten years, and all this was caused by her dislike for her husband, film producer Stephen Belafonte.
“I just wasn’t in her life for a time because of him (Stephen),” she said, “but now we’re doing OK, which is a relief.”
Andrea, 60, a property developer from Leeds, west Yorkshire, was ostracised by Mel for voicing her fears over her relationship with ‘controlling’ Belafonte, 42.
The ex-Spice Girls star and her mother Andrea have reunited a few months ago, after the death of Mel’s father Martin in March, while the singer was filing for divorce. Andrea Brown tells the outlet her daughter is “brave” for finally finding the strength to leave her “controlling” husband.
Mel and Stephen began dating in February 2007. They secretly married on 6th June 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada and subsequently renewed their vows in front of their families on 8th November 2008 in Hurghada, Egypt. They welcomed a daughter in 2011. In March 2017, Mel found the strength to finally ditch Belafonte, who she claims tortured her for years with physically and emotional abuse. Brown filed for divorce and the couple separated in December 2016.
