‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ singer Gretchen G dies at 28
Venezuelan singer Gretchen Serrao, known as simply Gretchen G died at age 28 on Monday (Oct. 8). The news was confirmed Wednesday (Oct. 10) by the singer’s family through a statement sent by her publicist.
“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of our beloved daughter and sister Gretchen Serrao (Gretchen G) on Monday, October 8th,” the statement reads.
“Her passion was music and always worked towards her dream of sharing it with the world. She was a wonderful soul and free spirit and will be dearly missed by us all,” it continues.
“We want to officially declare that Gretchen suffered from a disease that she battled for years and one that finally defeated her resulting in her passing. We hope that everyone remembers her for the beautiful person she was. We ask that you please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you – The Serrao-Cabrera family,” it concludes.
Gretchen participated in the popular Univision show “Nuestra Belleza Latina” in 2012. Among Gretchen G’s best known songs are “Tu princesa” and “La salida,” which reached the top of the Billboard Latin charts. She had also another entry on the same chart: “Te Amare Por Siempre,” which peaked at No. 14 (chart dated March 23, 2013).
She was nominated in 2013 for the Premios Lo Nuestro in the category of Female Tropical Artist of the Year. Next Saturday (Oct. 20) a mass will be celebrated in her memory. No details were offered about the funeral.
