Pink’s daugher feels ugly, the singer delivers heartbreaking message about real beauty
It’s all about accepting who you really are. That’s what Pink tried to explain to her daughter Willow in a heartbreaking message about beauty and self-esteem during the MTV VMAs.
On Sunday (Aug 27) the Just Give Me A Reason hitmaker told the audience hat she was shocked when her six-year-old baby girl deemed herself “ugly” during a candid chat with her mum about her appearance.
“Recently I was driving my daughter to school, and she said to me, out of the blue, she said, ‘Mama… I’m the ugliest girl I know,’” Pink began. “And I said, ‘Eh?’ She said, ‘Yeah, I look like a boy with long hair'”
The singer, who was at the ceremony to collect the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, decided to encourage Willow to help her show the world that beauty comes in all different forms.
“I really wanna know why you feel this way about yourself” Pink said to her daughter “‘because I also look like a boy, and what do you think I look like?” All that Pillow answered was: “you’re beautiful”.
Pink continued: “‘When people make fun of me, that’s what they use. They say I look like a boy or I’m too masculine or I have too many opinions, my body is too strong,'” Pink explained. “And I said to her, ‘Do you see me growing my hair?’ ‘No, mama.’ ‘Do you see me changing my body…?’ ‘No, mama’. ‘Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world…?’ ‘No Mama’ ‘Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?’ ‘Yes, mama.’
Pink concluded her speech by thanking her fellow artists for “being your true selves and for lighting the way for us”, before adding one final reminder for young Willow.
“OK, so, baby girl, we don’t change,” the mother-of-two stated. “We take the gravel in the shell and we make a pearl, and we help other people to change, so they can see more kinds of beauty. And you my darling girl, are beautiful, and I love you.”
