Rita Ora: ‘I’ve had relationships with men and women’
Rita Ora got slammed in reviews for her latest single “Girls” featuring American rapper Cardi B, American singer Bebe Rexha and British singer Charli XCX. The song was released as the third single from Ora’s upcoming second studio album on May 11 and is considered by the singer as a ‘bisexual anthem’.
Sadly, lots of people criticised the song for being “harmful” to the LGBTQ community and Rita Ora released an official statement on Twitter apologizing for unintended offense.
Following the release of the track, Rita was asked if she is bisexual, but she declined to label herself, stating, “I think the way… If people look at it like that, it’s very narrow-minded, and I don’t think that’s what this record is. I don’t think that that even matters.”
However, now the Anywhere hitmaker has opened up about her past intimate relations and said she slept with both men and women.
Rita explained that the tune of the song “was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life”.
“I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey,” she added, “I am sorry how I expressed myself in my song has hurt anyone, I would never intentionally cause harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone.”
“Looking forward, I hope that continuing to express myself through my art will empower my fans to feel as proud of themselves as I’m learning to feel about who I am. I have strived to be a contributor to the LGBTQ+ community throughout my entire career and always will be,” Ora concluded.
