Ty Dolla $ign arrested on drug charges in Atlanta
American singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer Ty Dolla $ign was was handcuffed and taken away by police for drug possession on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 5) just two hours before he was slated to co-headline a show with G-Eazy at Cellairis Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
The incident reportedly took place at 4:55 p.m. when the car the rapper was traveling in with six others was stopped on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and officers said they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.
After searching the vehicle, police allegedly found marijuana and cocaine, which led to the rapper’s arrest on charges of alleged possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of cocaine and, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Yes, because a video from the incident acquired by TMZ shows a handful of police officers going through Dolla’s limousine van and at one point, a drug dog begins barking aggressively.
A police officer tells Ty and the other guys in the car that he spotted some marijuana in the backseat of the car and asks if anyone wants to own up to it. Needless to say they all remain silent.
The other six people in the vehicle were released without charges. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
